Karhu Forge was born deep in the forests of Rovaniemi. We are a brotherhood of blacksmiths dedicated to preserving the ancient art of the Puukko—the essential tool of the Finnish outdoorsman.
We don't mass-produce. We stand before the roaring forge, hammer in hand, beating high-carbon steel into a blade that holds an edge through the harshest Nordic winters. A Karhu knife is not a showpiece; it is a tool meant to be used, trusted, and passed down.

High-Carbon Steel
Forged from 80CrV2 carbon steel, hardened to 59-60 HRC. It takes a razor-sharp Scandi grind and holds it through bone and wood.
Curly Birch Handles
Sourced from the forests of Lapland, Karelian curly birch provides an incredibly strong, ergonomic, and uniquely patterned grip.
Vegetable Tanned Sheath

The Forging Process
Forging
Raw steel is heated to 1050°C and hammered into shape, aligning the grain structure for maximum strength.
Heat Treatment
The blade is normalized, quenched in warm oil, and tempered twice to relieve stress and achieve perfect hardness.
Handling & Honing
The tang is epoxied and peened into the wooden block, shaped by hand, and sharpened to a hair-shaving edge.

Blacksmith's FAQ
Carbon steel will rust if neglected. Wipe the blade dry after use and apply a light coat of food-safe mineral oil or camellia oil. Over time, the blade will develop a protective dark patina.
A Scandinavian (Scandi) grind is a single wide bevel that goes straight to the edge without a secondary micro-bevel. It is exceptional for carving wood and very easy to sharpen in the field on a flat stone.
